When you buy a new car, you usually don’t give much thought to car parts. The car comes with a warranty and the dealer takes care of most of the problems. This is why you want to keep the original factory installed as long as possible because they will probably never be replaced with anything of the same quality.
The car after-market is the market for replacement car parts. Many times you can’t find while the car is under warranty unless you buy from the dealer. This is because they aren’t being made for the after-market yet. Once are manufactured for the after-market you have to be very careful what you buy because of all of the “knock offs”. Usually you are safe buying a part from a well-known manufacturer. They may not be the exact factory specifications as the original are, but they are close enough in terms of material that they will function without causing problems in the car’s operating systems. Knock-offs, however, are another story. They are many times made of inferior material that may not be compatible with the car’s operating systems. This means that the use of knock-offs can damage the car. Saving a few bucks on a part by buying from a manufacturer that you haven’t heard from or buying a knock-off may cost hundreds of dollars in the long-run.
